UPDATE: Propane truck involved in multi-structure fire at Barton Orchards
POUGHQUAG – Several buildings and a propane delivery truck caught fire just before 1 p.m. Monday. Several fire departments were on the scene at Barton Orchards on Apple Tree Lane and several other county departments were moving to surrounding stations, starting at 1 p.m. Monday. :30 pm The well-known orchard facility is in the Beekman hamlet of Poughquag.
An initial report indicated that there was a propane leak in one of the buildings where a Bottini Fuel propane truck was delivering the gas. A few minutes later, a fire official arrived on the scene and said there was a fire in the building and it had spread to several other nearby structures. At 1 p.m., the Orchard Fire Command Center radioed Dutchess County 911 that the propane truck was also fully engulfed in flames.
UPDATE: Fire services from as far away as the Ulster Hose Company in the city of Ulster have mobilized first responders and appliances to fight the blaze.
Barton Orchards took to social media to state that no humans or animals were harmed. At 3:00 p.m., the post said: “We had a fire on the farm today. All of our employees and animals are safe. We are grateful for the fire and the first responders who are still battling what is left of the fire. We’ll keep everyone posted.
