KEYSTONE, SD – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public open house at the Keystone Community Center Gym (1101 Madill St.) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, to inform area residents the US Highway 16A structure replacement project on Battle Creek in Keystone and the SD Highway 40 sidewalk from the intersection with US Highway 16A to 3rd Street. The meeting will also provide information on the ADA’s curb, ramp and sidewalk improvement project on SD Highway 40 in Keystone from 3rd Street east of Nelson Avenue.

The open house will be informal and allow for one-on-one discussion with SDDOT design staff. A presentation will take place shortly after 5:30 p.m. Following the presentation, SDDOT staff will be available with displays to discuss the proposed project and answer questions. All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting to share their views and concerns at any time between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. During this period, guests will also have the opportunity to submit comments. written. Information will be available on right-of-way acquisition and relocation assistance. This project is being developed in accordance with state and federal environmental regulations.

Immediately following the open house, a brief informational presentation will be given regarding the schedule and construction sequence for the Highway SD 40 ADA Curb, Ramp and Sidewalk Improvement Project. ADA upgrades on SD Highway 40 will consist of modifying, reconstructing or constructing new curb ramps at 22 locations to bring them up to current standards. In most cases, minor adjustments may be required to the approaches and sidewalk to best accommodate the installation of ADA requirements. A new sidewalk will be constructed to accommodate frequently used footpaths.

If unable to attend the meeting in person, those interested in the proposed project or the ADA Improvement Project can join the meeting virtually via Facebook Live from the Town of Keystone’s Facebook page. Guests will need to be members of this page to access it.

The website allows for the submission of written comments online. Written comments will be accepted until Friday, March 18, 2022.

Notice is also given to people with disabilities that this open house is being held in a physically accessible location.
