Council holds hearing on unsafe structures; Commission honors employees

Great Bend City Council will meet Monday evening and the Barton County Commission will meet Wednesday morning, and both are planning virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

Great Bend City Council will meet at 6.30pm Monday at City Hall, 1209 Williams. The meetings can also be viewed on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at The meeting will be recorded.

Agenda includes public hearing for unsafe and unsafe structure at 1210 Morton, enactment of rate schedule, sale of remaining lots in the Amber Meadows Rural Housing Incentive District and system improvements ultraviolet disinfection of the water treatment plant.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be livestreamed due to COVID-19.

It will be broadcast via Microsoft Teams. Citizens can view the meeting through their own login or by logging in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• Recognition of county employees for years of service.

• An Employee Recognition Award for staff of the Department of Health’s Maternal and Child Health Program.

• A proclamation for World Autism Acceptance Month.

• Proposals for the 2022 road alignment project.

• A review of the countywide burn ban.

• An update on the county’s dispute over a Sunflower Diversified Services request for a property tax exemption for the property at 5523 10th.

• 10:30 am – replacement of beds on two dump trucks with Darren Williams, County Works Manager.

• 10:45 am – Meeting at the Homeland Security Council with Amy Miller, Emergency Risk Manager.

• 11:00 am – Program update with Bailey Rankin, Chair, Employee Relations Committee.

• 11:15 am – financial update with Matt Patzner, Director of Operations.

• Noon – a committee will host a luncheon for the Employee Recognition Award recipients.

• 1:15 p.m. – Program overview with Steven Bohlender, Executive Vice President, Computer Information Concepts Inc.

• 3:00 pm – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, Director of Operations.
