Ronnie Tutt, former drummer for Elvis Presley, died at 83


Ronnie Tutt, a much sought-after session drummer and member of Elvis Presley’s legendary Takin ‘Care of Business (TCB), has passed away, reports Elvis Presley Enterprises. He was 83 years old.

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Tutt joined the TCB Band in 1969 for the opening of Presley in Las Vegas, and he remained in the band until Presley’s death in 1977. For decades he remained in close contact with its TCB community.

“We have enjoyed every time he joined us here to celebrate Elvis week, Elvis birthday and many other special occasions,” Elvis Presley Enterprises wrote in remembrance of Tutt on the Graceland website. . “Ronnie was an incredible ambassador of Elvis ‘legacy – sharing his memories of working with Elvis with fans – as well as bringing Elvis’ music to arenas around the world during shows and subsequent performances by Elvis in Concert. “

In the mid-1970s, while still performing with Presley, Tutt also began touring with the group Jerry Garcia and performing with this group in studio sessions. In 2017, he told Rolling stone what a striking contrast he observed between the aesthetics of the two acts.

“I was still laughing because one night I was in Vegas playing with two piece rhinestone outfits and the next night I was dating Garcia in the tie-dye and a pair of jeans. During his rich career, Tutt also worked with artists such as Neil Diamond and Billy Joel, and starred on the latter’s studio breakthrough in 1973, Piano Man.

TMZ reports that, according to Tutt’s wife Donna, he died on Saturday (October 16) at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. Although the exact cause of his death was not immediately clear, Donna said Tutt died “of natural causes”. and that he suffered from long-term heart disease.
