Culture Night takes place in Donegal tonight
The Culture Division of Donegal County Council will present its 13e annual program of events for Culture Night tonight.
This exceptional night of cultural festivities takes place once a year as part of a national celebration of arts, heritage and culture. In Donegal, bookings for events have been stable with some events like The Alchemist in Letterkenny Town Park already full. There are limits to the number of spectators that can attend live events in the evening, therefore advance booking is essential for all of these events.
While all Culture Night events are FREE, many Covid 19 restrictions remain in place and the organizers ask all visitors to Culture Night live events to adhere to and adhere to the Covid 19 protocols and guidelines that have been put in place by participating sites. , in the interest of public safety.
JUNK KOUTURE PRESENTS: THE JUNK KOUTURE SHOWCASE
Junk Kouture, the global young creatives program, will occupy various spaces in Letterkenny during Culture Night, showcasing incredible designs from students of the Northwest. Each design has an incredible story of how the materials were transformed from “trash” to “couture,” all by students aged 13-18. The designs will be on display at various locations in Letterkenny, including Morne Antiques and Jewelery, Irish boutique Amelia’s Design and Gift, and venues on The Church Lane. A GRIANAN THEATER
During Culture Night, the An Grianán Youth Theater and the On Cue Academy will present The Gentleman Pirate by Niamh Langan. Appreciate the story of Stede Bonnet, a gentleman pirate renowned for his inability to hack, and find out what happens when he falls in the company of the legendary Blackbeard. LETTERKENNY CENTRAL LIBRARY
Embrace the spirit of the circus at the Central Library with the Dr. Proctor Show with Orson Sterritt. Join Dr. Proctor for a circus with lots of magic, juggling, acrobatics and a few surprises! There will be four 15-minute shows starting at 6 p.m. Reservation is essential because places are limited. Contact the Central Library on 074 9124950 to reserve a space.
THE CATHEDRAL DISTRICT PRESENTS
The ‘Cathedral Quarter Experience’ presented by the Elusive Theater begins at 6:30 p.m. outside Church Aisle 1. Go for a walk with Letterkenny Legends, as the Elusive Theater offers a short tour but rich and rich in history. Meet characters from the past and learn about events that helped shape the present. This outdoor event has a limited audience with a maximum of 20 people, in pods or groups. Pre-reservation is essential by contacting Donnan Harvey on 086 345 2457.
The Cathedral Quarter will also mark Culture Night by officially unveiling a plaque the group received when they received the President’s Award from the Irish Planning Institute. The unveiling ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.
The Glebe Gallery will open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., providing a wonderful opportunity to view the gallery’s current exhibition, Turas or Journey. This contemporary exhibition features three artists Bassam Al-Sabah, Aideen Barry and Sean Hillen.

REGIONAL CULTURAL CENTER
After two exhibitions “I am Donegal” in 2018 and “When I was a Child” in 2019, Letterkenny artist Peadar McDaid invited 50 artists to create a work of art based on the theme “A Portrait of Me” which will be unveiled at the Regional Cultural Center during Culture Night.
THE HOME SONG
The tradition of Raking House was once strong throughout Ireland. During Culture Night, The Song House will become a digital Raking House as a storyteller and actor, Ita Fitzmahony presents a site-specific one-woman show highlighting the great – albeit rather under-represented – women of our folklore and our stories.
