Why is the world acting like Turkey turned the Eiffel Tower into a minaret?

In the city of a country. In one of the squares of this city … a place of worship has been built.

The project was designed, its foundations were laid and the walls began to rise.

It has been painstakingly completed.

The day then comes for him to open his doors.

What’s your business?

*

Whether it is a church or a synagogue?

A mosque or a Buddhist temple.

Or anything else.

Everything this country needs.

This does not concern anyone. Absolutely no one.

*

Yet that is not the way it is.

When this country in question is Turkey, this city is Istanbul and this square is Taksim, then everyone should give their two cents.

Almost everyone then gives themselves the right to object.

Americans, Germans, British and French.

The Dutch, the Israelis and the Greeks …

*

When we say what is your business, they act like we have committed an act of blasphemy!

And all the dogs inside, whether they are on a leash or not, are then let loose on us.

They drool, show their teeth, and prepare to pounce.

They come towards us from afar …

As if we would go this far and build a mosque in one of the biggest squares in their cities.

As if they were forcing their hand to build these mosques.

*

As if we had gone to Paris and turned the Eiffel Tower into a minaret.

If we had built a majestic mosque next door, with a steel dome, they would be justified in this kind of reaction.

No no, don’t worry.

We have no intention of doing anything of the sort.

You can keep your Eiffel.

This is why we underline in which year we are compared to 1453; we calculate how many years Istanbul has been ours.

Not just us, those crazy people who oppose every development are also doing the math.

They are even more aware than we are of the time that has passed, up to the year and the month.

You can ask those eyeing Istanbul (and waiting for the first opportunity to occupy it) how many hours and months have passed since then.

*

Yet, we always make sure to repeat this calculation during Conquest celebrations.

Is it necessary to continue to underline which anniversary it is?

No one can hide this city from us anymore.

Whether it’s after a hundred more years or a millennium.

God willing, we’re here until the end of days.

We are aware of our independence and we will choose how and when we act.

*

Let us refresh your memory …

We have reopened Hagia Sophia, symbol of conquest, to Muslim worship.

And all that was left for today was to build a mosque in Taksim.

We have proven once again that we are completely independent.

Even if it’s too much for pitbulls to swallow.
