On this day in horror history, the cult classic of horror comedy Killer Klowns From Outer Space was released in 1988. Written and directed by the Chiodo Brothers, it stars Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, John Allen Nelson and John Vernon.

It begins when teenagers see a comet crashing outside their small town and investigate to discover a pack of murderous aliens who look like circus clowns. They try to warn the local authorities, but everyone assumes their story is a prank. Meanwhile, the clowns began to harvest and eat as many people as possible. The teenagers then decide that it is up to them to stop the bloody rampage of the clowns.

It is the only film written and directed by the Chiodo Brothers and marks the first role of Christopher Titus in a film. John Massari composed the score.

The original title was simply Killer klowns, but the filmmakers added the words from deep space to prevent audiences from thinking it was a slasher movie.

It stars Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, John Allen Nelson, John Vernon, Michael S. Siegel, Peter Licassi, Royal Dano, Charles Chiodo and Christopher Titus.

Rated PG-13 for Adult Situations / Language, Violence, it sports a 78% over Rotten Tomatoes with a critics’ consensus that reads: Killer Klowns from Outer Space’s title promises dark fun – and more often than not, the movie delivered.
