Questacon Science Circus is coming to North West Queensland. From June 1-5, the Science Circus will visit schools in North West Queensland, including Mount Isa and Cloncurry. “We are delighted to be hitting the road and bringing Questacon to central Queensland. After the borders closed last year, we feel privileged to travel again and present our shows to students across the region, ”said Science Circus presenter Margo Brewin. The team will present interactive science-based shows exploring the physics of gooey mud, the geometry of giant bubbles, and rocket takeoff with the mechanics of flight. “The Questacon Science Circus isn’t just for students, we also offer teacher professional development workshops that support teachers with resources to use in their own classrooms. We aim to show that science can be practiced by anyone and to build the confidence of teachers to integrate the practice of science into their lessons, ”said Ms. Brewin. The Scientific Circus is presented by eight postgraduate students studying for a Master of Science Communication Outreach at the Australian National University. Student fieldwork involves tours with the Science Circus, engaging people with science and technology through visits to communities across Australia. Applications to be part of next year’s team are now open. Since 1985, the Cirque des sciences has inspired more than 2.5 million people with interactive science shows during multiple visits to more than 500 cities and communities, including 90 remote Indigenous communities. The Questacon Science Circus is an initiative of the Australian National University and Questacon – the National Science and Technology Center.
