New Hastings bar with fire performers and drag performers to open
Victorian-themed Dr. Jekylls will open on June 25.
It is located at 10 George Street, in the building officially occupied by Blackmarket VIP.
It will open under the ownership and direction of Lee Batholomew.
On June 25, its first party open to the public will feature a “flagship theme party” called Freakshow Friday. This will include fire performers, wax performers, real life “ monsters ”, Broadway stars, drag acts and more live music.
The new bar will also include a circus-themed balcony room overlooking the action below, as well as a cockpit.
John Bownas, director of the Hastings Business Improvement District (BID), said Dr Jekylls has been transformed into a “truly spectacular space”.
Hastings businesses are bracing for a busy summer season, after the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the local tourism sector in 2020. Before the pandemic, the sector supported more than 16,000 jobs in 1,066 countries and generated over £ 700. million euros for the local economy, according to Kevin Boorman, director of the tourism partnership 1066 Country Marketing.
Mr Bownas added: “The next few months will be exciting in Hastings as we enter a summer season which is bound to see an influx of domestic tourism. And it’s great to see how many hospitality and entertainment companies are gearing up to meet this demand.
“In Old Town, Blackmarket VIP is turning into a really spectacular space called Dr Jekylls, and the new roller coaster ride is already popular.
“This is just a small selection of what’s going on in town right now.
“There are still challenges, but we are discussing with the board and other companies how we can invest in improvements in Hastings that will encourage more people to visit and return.”
