Genco Youth Programme (2012)

Residency in France in conjunction with North Devon Theatres

The Generating Company strives to ensure the future of circus as an art form by offering people of all ethnic and social backgrounds the chance to become involved. Our Residential Youth Circus programme is directed at positively creating original work with young people.

The Genco Youth Circus project first ran in London during the summer of 2002. It was aimed at young people aged 15-19 and was part of the expanding Generating Company Education Programme.

We teach a broad range of specialist skills such as trapeze, rope, trampoline, juggling, skateboarding, break dancing and acro-balance as well as compulsory skills in music, percussion and rhythm, acting, characterisation and dance.

The residency aims to encourage young people to express themselves physically through learning new contemporary performance and technical skills. It promotes individual and uninhibited self-expression for the physical artists of tomorrow, taking urban street culture into a circus forum.

The Genco Youth Residency is geared towards Schools in Europe. We aim to focus on International Schools in the future. The course is currently without funding and is not sponsored. We are hoping to secure funding in the coming year.
